Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its own results. Middlesex County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message is retained as needed to prepare a response. It remains within the team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the servers to receive routine technical information about the visit, including:
- Pages viewed, visit length, and page-view timestamps
- Your device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- The referring site, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show, in aggregate, which parts of the site draw visits and where sessions end. Analytics vendors assist with that traffic measurement. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted search to the selected partner service
- Maintaining reliable site operation and page speed
- Finding and repairing technical faults
- Measuring which pages are useful or need improvement
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Middlesex County Criminal History does not operate, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records kept by the Middlesex County Sheriff, courts in Saluda, Virginia State Police CARE/CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies provide the site's search tools. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider chooses its own retention and disclosure rules. Review those terms before entering a query because this site cannot control the provider's handling of it.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Middlesex County government, Virginia courts, Virginia State Police, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Read them before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select targeted ads. Their systems conduct that tracking under their own policies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by this site. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query you submit
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected by the site. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, however, and the site cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, you may request its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary based on where you live and which privacy or consumer-protection law applies. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Code of Virginia § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to records of covered public bodies, while Code § 19.2-389 controls dissemination of state criminal-history information. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a Middlesex County records custodian. For information held by this site, you may:
- Request access to personal information kept about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Request deletion where applicable
- Object to certain processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised. A changed version will be posted here and will carry a new effective date so visitors can identify the policy then in force.
Effective date: August 10, 2026
